The Art of Rodney Tuttle

Dennis' Back Yard

This purely improvisational still-life is full of interesting juxtapositions; The statuette of the knight in back of the glass ashtray filled with cigarette butts and plastic hair brush vs. the deer skull, the beer cap and beer keg. The melting snow on top of an old top-door freezer with fallen leaves in the background. The way the hand-on-hip knight’s head is turned toward the deer skull. All arranged without forethought over the course of the fall months of 1994. Then, after the first snow of the season was slowly melting one sunny, above-freezing day, I ‘saw’ the picture, and quick grabbed my camera to capture it. I also like the natural way the snow's melting edges are affected by the objects it intersects; like the base of the statuette, or the leaf on top of the freezer, or the ashtray, or the door-handle of the freezer, and the contour of the deer skull.
